Find the Right Lens, Fit, and Field of View
The right ski or snowboard goggles should fit comfortably, work with your helmet, and provide a useful view of the terrain in the conditions you ride most. Start with fit and lens choice, then consider features such as interchangeable lenses and an expanded field of view.
At Ski Barn, our team can help you compare goggles and understand the differences before you head to the mountain.
Choosing Lenses for Changing Light
Bright sunshine and cloudy afternoons call for different lens characteristics. A darker lens suited to strong sunlight may feel too dark when clouds move in.
Visible light transmission, or VLT, describes how much light passes through a lens. Higher-VLT lenses generally suit lower-light conditions; lower-VLT lenses generally suit brighter conditions. Lens color alone doesn’t tell the whole story—check the manufacturer’s intended use.
If you regularly ski or snowboard in changing weather, consider interchangeable lenses and a suitable low-light option.

Check Goggles with Your Helmet
Bring your helmet when trying on goggles. Check that the frame sits comfortably against your face without pinching your nose or leaving significant gaps. The helmet should not push the goggles down or interfere with their fit.
Goggle Questions, Answered
Are the darkest lenses best for every day?
No. Choose lenses for the available light and conditions, rather than appearance alone.
Do all goggles fit every helmet?
Fit varies. Trying them together is the best way to check comfort and compatibility.
Should I bring my glasses?
Yes. If you wear prescription glasses, bring them so you can evaluate compatible options.
